Protection from unwanted e-mails
With the Merak Instant AntiSpam solution you
protect your employees and customers against unwanted e-mails, so-called
Spam mails. Instant AntiSpam filters all e-Mails according
to your needs, marks
then and puts them in a special Spam folder on the mail server.
The advantage
of the direct integration of an AntiSpam solution in the mail server
is the fact that bad e-mails don't have to be
loaded from the server, the Spam administrator can learn
and supervise the system, and that the AntiSpam works
also by
WebMail and not only
on the PC in your office
Technology
Merak Instant AntiSpam unifies different ideas to avoid spam
mails: Bayesian filter,
Spam
Assassin engine and Challenge Response.
Bayesian filter
Bayesian
filter analyzes the content of an e-mail and computes the
probability that an e-mail contains too many unwanted words.
This can become very difficult, because certain words are
not disturbing some people but other's do. Therefore an
adaptive data base is used. It can teach and optimize your
system,
similarly to a system with artificial intelligence.
Spam Assassin
is using different well-known tests and
methods, that analyze e-mail header and the content of
an e-Mail and computes a value, which
indicates,
how
probable it is, that the e-Mail is wanted or not. The integration
of Spam Assasin in the Merak Mail Server is 50 times faster
than the original Spam Assassin (trademark) engine.
More information about Spam Assassin you can find here:www.spamassassin.org
Black & White list
Each user can use its individual Black & White list.
With each e-mail the user can decide,
whether the sender is good or bad and adds him to the appropriate
list. With the Challenge Response this procedure can be fully
automated.
Challenge Response
If the first 2 stages (Bayesian filter
and Spam Assassin rules) do not provide enough accuracy, with
the Challenge
Response
system
you can reach an almost
100% filtering.
On the one hand e-Mail addresses, that are sent through
this Merak Mail Server, can automatically
fed in
a White list. The next time the AntiSpam engine receives
an e-mail from this e-Mail address,
it knows
the
fact,
that this
comes from "a friend" and accepts this e-mail.
Additionally still another mechanism can be activated, which
makes it possible
for unknown senders to legitimize itself over a web site. They
are then registered also in the White list.
Daily AntiSpam data base update
Spammers are bad guys. They always develop new strategies of
spamming. With the daily update of the Spam data base you
have guarantee that your protection is
up to date. The update is comparable with
an anti virus update.
Application
The Spam folder
Instant AntiSpam saves an e-mail,
which was recognized by the Bayesian filter or Spam Assassin
engine, in a separate folder named Spam. The
supposed
Spam
Mail is not just deleted
or received within the Inbox.
(could be configured in such a way. The e-mail
becomes
then
for example
a special subject mark: [ Spam: 95% ])
The user can move Spam e-Mails
from his Inbox into the Spam folder, not recognized correctly
yet. The same way he can move wrong treated good e-Mails (false
positive) from the Spam folder into the Inbox. Afterwards
the indexing is started and the system learns
these samples.
The Spam file can be configured in three ways:
-
by WebMail

-
Instant Messenger

-
IMAP folder within outlook, eudora or other IMAP e-mail client
Self learning mechanism
Merak Instant AntiSpam can be operated also in "self
learning" mode. Thus the system learns from errors. The user teaches the
system, by reconducting information to the AntiSpam system. Autoupdate loads
daily (like AntiVirus) the Bayesian Spam data base to your system.
That complete Merak Instant AntiSpam
solution is very flexible and makes it possible to combine the Bayesian
filter, Spam Assassin engine, Challenge Response and static filters.
e-Mails can be deleted, rejected, its Subject changed (for
example: [ Spam
95% ]...) or for further processing it can be marked as Spam.
The Spam
administrator
With the new idea, that Spam Mails remain on the server, there can be used
a new, central administration. With the Instant Messenger a dedicated user
can
configure
now
the e-Mails and Spam Mails of other
employees. So for example the secretary manages the Spam Mails of her
boss. This Spam administrator can move easily the, as Spam marked "good" e-mails
(so-called false positive) into the correct Inbox or the
Black and White list.
Merak Instant AntiSpam
is a very efficient, adaptive and versatile option of the Merak Mail Server.
It protects you and your users against unwanted e-Mails. Now and in the
future (ensured with the daily Spam data base and Spam Assassin filter
update) Instant
AntiSpam offers a high level of protection.
If you don't want get rid of your Exchange server or any other
mail server, use Merak Instant AntiSpam as upstream Mail
Security server.
